Lynnae Mahaney, Chair

Lynnae M. Mahaney, M.B.A, FASHP, is Visante's Vice President, Hospital & Health System Services. Over the course of her career she has been recognized for her innovative and energetic leadership in inpatient and ambulatory pharmacy services in community as well as governmental healthcare systems. Much of her experience involves practice model changes in both clinic and hospital settings. As a past president and fellow of the American Society of Health–System Pharmacists (ASHP) she has gained a national as well as an international reputation for the advancement of pharmacist practices. She continues to pursue her interest in global healthcare issues through the expansion of Visante's International Practice.
Prior to joining Visante, Ms. Mahaney was Chief of Pharmacy for the Wm S. Middleton Memorial VA Hospital in Madison, WI where she continues to provide project management services. This Veteran's Administration complex has diverse teaching, research, medicine, and transplant programs as well as an extensive, multi-site ambulatory clinic outreach that covers parts of two states. Her responsibilities included oversight of all pharmacy programming and services and the administration of a budget in excess of $30M. During her tenure at Middleton, Lynnae implemented systems for Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA), as well as major expansion of ambulatory care pharmacist services throughout its network. Nationally, she remains an active participant with VA leadership development, recruitment, and retention programs.
Prior to joining the Department of Veterans Affairs, Ms. Mahaney was Director of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation in Madison. In this position she was responsible for operation of its six retail pharmacies, an infusion service, and the purchase and distribution of pharmaceuticals for its 35 clinic locations. Before this she was Director of Pharmacy at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay and Manager of Operations for Pharmacy Services at Meriter Hospital, Inc. in Madison, WI.
Throughout her career, Lynnae has served on numerous committees and professional boards. She was a presidential officer of ASHP from 2009-2011 and has served on that Board of Directors since 2004. In 2011 she was installed as the Board Chair of ASHP's Research and Education Foundation. In 2004 she was named Pharmacist of the Year by the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin. In 1995 she received the President's Award from the Wisconsin Society of Health System Pharmacists. She is a sought-after speaker and has consistently contributed to the professional literature.

David R. Gaugh, Vice Chair

David R. Gaugh, R.Ph., is the Generic Pharmaceutical Association's (GPhA) Vice President for Regulatory Sciences.
Prior to joining GPhA, he served as Vice President and General Manager of the Bedford Laboratories Division of Ben Venue Laboratories, a Boehringer Ingelheim Company, where he was responsible for Business Development, Marketing and Sales for the multi-source injectable business. Mr. Gaugh has also served as the Director of Marketing and Business Development and General Manager. Mr. Gaugh was Senior Director, Pharmacy Contracting and Marketing at Novation, the largest Group Purchasing Organization in the United States. Prior to Novation, he was System Director of Pharmacy for St. Luke's Health System, a teaching hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Mr. Gaugh is a registered pharmacist and a graduate of the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy. He is engaged in several pharmacy-related activities, such as the GPhA Bio-Similar Task Force, the ASHP Foundation Corporate Development Committee and various pharmacy/marketing internship programs. |

Paul W. Abramowitz, President
Bethesda, Md.
Paul W. Abramowitz, Pharm.D., FASHP, became ASHP's fourth Executive Vice President & CEO on January 1, 2012. Dr. Abramowitz worked in hospitals and health systems for 34 years, most recently as Associate Hospital Director for Professional Services and Chief Pharmacy Officer at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He also served as Professor and Assistant Dean at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. He was previously the Director of Pharmacy and a faculty member at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals and the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics.
Dr. Abramowitz received his doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Michigan. He also holds two bachelor's degrees: one in pharmacy from the University of Toledo, and the second in chemistry and biology from Indiana University. He completed a postgraduate residency in hospital pharmacy at the University of Michigan Hospital.
Dr. Abramowitz has been very active in serving numerous organizations throughout his career. He has been a member of the ASHP House of Delegates, and joined the Board of Directors in 1990, where he served for 5 years -- 2 of those years were spent as the Board President. He also served as Treasurer for both ASHP and the ASHP Foundation. He was ASHP Foundation Chair from 1994-1995. He has also held positions on the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, the Iowa Statwide Poison Control Center Board of Directors, the University Health-System Consortium Pharmacy Council Executive Committee, the Illinois Council of Hospital Pharmacists and the Northern Illinois Society of Hospital Pharmacists.
Dr. Abramowitz has been widely recognized for his work, most notably with the ASHP Harvey A. K. Whitney Lecture Award in 2009. He is also the recipient of the Northeastern University Bouve College of Health Sciences' John W. Webb Lecture Award (2000), ASHP's Award for Achievement in the Professional Practcie of Hospital Pharmacy (1985), the Iowa Pharmacy Association's Health-System Pharmacist of the Year Award (2009), and the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy's Distinguished Alumni Lifetime Acheivement Award (2010). |

Philip J. Schneider, Treasurer

Philip J. Schneider, B.S., Pharm.D., is Director of Pharmacy, Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. He earned his bachelor's and doctorate degrees from the University of Iowa and completed a residency in Adult Internal Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina. In his nearly 20 years with the Olathe Health System, he has led many programmatic and technological initiatives, which have resulted in a robust practice model and cost-effective drug utilization.
Dr. Schneider has served ASHP in a variety of capacities, including: member, Board of Directors (2004-2007); Chair, Council on Organizational Affairs; member, Committee on Nominations; and ASHP delegate for approximately 8 years. He is a past Treasurer and Presidential officer of the Kansas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (KSHP). He was the recipient of KSHP's Harold Godwin Lecture Award for Outstanding Achievement in Hospital Pharmacy (1994) and the KSHP Pharmacist of the Year (1997). |

Stephen J. Allen, R.Ph., M.S., FASHP, has served as the ASHP Foundation's executive vice president since 2000. He has extensive health-system pharmacy management experience, having served as director of pharmacy at Children's Hospital National Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, and Georgetown University Hospital. Mr. Allen received his bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Rhode Island, and his master's degree in hospital pharmacy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where he also completed a residency in hospital pharmacy practice. |

Barbara Balik, R.N., M.S., Ed.D., is an independent healthcare consultant focusing on quality and safety. Previously, she worked at Allina Hospitals and Clinics in St. Paul, MN, filling three roles: Executive Vice President of Safety and Quality Systems, the System Patient Safety Officer and the Chief Quality Officer. Ms. Balik completed her doctorate degree in education at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, and earned her master's degree in family nursing from the University of Minnesota. Her bachelor's degree in nursing came from Marycrest College in Davenport, IA.
Ms. Balik serves on the National Patient Safety Foundation's Board of Governors and has also been a member of the selection panel for the ASHP Foundation's Award for Excellence in Medication-Use Safety for 3 years.
As a leader and nationally recognized expert in safety and quality systems, Ms. Balik has presented numerous times on these topics. She is passionate about building leadership skills and systems to transform health care. |

Michael S. Flagstad, Director at Large

Michael S. Flagstad, M.S., R.Ph., is founder and chief executive officer of Visante®, Inc., a Minneapolis-based consulting practice. Since its incorporation, Michael has carefully crafted the Visante team so that it now includes more than 35 senior-level consultants, each representing advanced knowledge and experience in healthc are administrative, clinical, and operational areas. These support the firm's major client segments of hospital and health systems, health plans, and pharmacy benefit management (PBM) services. At present, Michael is taking the meaning of "Inc." to a new level by establishing relationships with international physicians, pharmacists and health care administrators in selected countries.
Mr. Flagstad's career includes more than 15 years of experience in hospitals and academic medical centers in administrative, faculty and clinical practice roles. He has served as associate director of pharmacy at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, clinical coordinator at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Illinois, and as a clinical pharmacist at Mercy Hospital Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Flagstad has also held pharmacy faculty appointments at the University of Florida, Purdue University and Drake University.
Mr. Flagstad has also served as senior vice president and chief clinical officer for Express Scripts/ValueRx. He has authored or coauthored more than 40 publications and presented more than 200 invited presentations and workshops at professional conferences and seminars. He is the 2000 recipient of the Winston J. Durant Lectureship Award from the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics. In 1999, Mr. Flagstad was an Honorary Fellow at the Center for Health-System Research and Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Mr. Flagstad earned his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy and master of science degree in hospital pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison. |

Diane B. Ginsburg, Director at Large

Diane B. Ginsburg, M.S., FASHP, is Clinical Professor and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. She is Regional Director for the statewide internship program and responsible for student leadership and professional development activities. Her career includes practice in multi-hospital systems, rural institutions, ambulatory care, and academic pharmacy. Ginsburg earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh and her master's of science degree in hospital pharmacy from the University of Houston. She completed a 2-year residency at The Methodist Hospital in Houston.
ASHP service includes a term on the Board of Directors, Chair, Council on Education Affairs, Co-Chair, Foundation Development Committee, and Texas delegate. She is Editor-in-Chief of ASHP's PharmPrep and Co-Editor of ASHP's Preceptor Handbook for Pharmacists. She is a Past President of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP). Ginsburg has received several honors, including the TSHP Pharmacist of the Year. |

Mick Hunt, Director at Large

Mick Hunt, M.S., M.B.A., FASHP, is associate professor and vice chair of pharmacy administration at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Pharmacy in Akron, Ohio, having joined the college in January 2011. In this capacity, he is responsible for teaching courses in pharmacy operations, personnel management and the health care delivery system. He is actively involved in developing a joint master's degree/administrative residency program.
Most recently, Mr. Hunt held the position of vice president of pharmacy with Novation, the supply chain management company for VHA and the University Hospital Consortium. In this capacity, he is responsible for contracting more than $10 billion in pharmaceuticals, strategy development, liaison to VHA and UHC health care alliances, member satisfaction, supplier relations, pharmacy data management and member communications.
Prior to joining Novation in 1998, he was director of pharmacy at the University of Kentucky Hospital and associate professor and assistant dean in the UK College of Pharmacy for 9 years. He has also served as director of pharmacy at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illionis, for 13 years and as assistant director of pharmacy at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Mr. Hunt received his bachelor's and master's degrees in pharmacy from the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy and completed a concurrent residency in hospital pharmacy at Grant Hospital in Columbus. He also holds a master's degree in business adminstration from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.

Randall A. Lipps, Director at Large

Randall A. Lipps is the founder of Omnicell, a leading provider of systems to enable health care facilities to increase operational efficiency, enhance patient safety and allow clinicians to spend more time with their patients. He provides the leadership for the company's growth as its president and chief executive officer, and has been chairman of the board of directors since its founding in 1992.
Omnicell was born from Mr. Lipps' direct personal experience. While spending weeks at his newborn and seriously ill daughter's bedside, Mr. Lipps observed the inefficiencies, redundancies and safety risks in how care was administered, and he determined there must be a better way. Within a year, his vision and passion to create automated solutions that would safely and effectively shepherd medications and supplies along their journey from hospital receiving dock to patient bedside led to the creation of Omnicell.
Since 2003, Omnicell has been recognized as one of the top Silicon Valley companies, as measured by market capitalization, by the San Jose Mercury News. Because of his passion for increasing efficiency in health care and improving patient safety, in 2009, Mr. Lipps joined the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Nursing Board of Overseers. Bruce E. Scott, Director at Large

Bruce E. Scott, M.S., is currently President of Critical Care Systems for Medco Health Solutions. Prior to joining Medco in September 2008, Bruce has held various senior leadership roles, including Chief Operating Officer of McKesson Medication Management, a subsidiary of McKesson which provides pharmacy management services to hospitals and vice president positions in Allina Hospitals and Clinics in Minnesota. He has also held multiple pharmacy practice leadership roles, including Director of Pharmacy at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Mr. Scott earned his undergraduate degree in pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy. (He is a proud Badger!) He also earned his master's degree in pharmacy administration from the University of Kansas.
Mr. Scott is passionate about the practice pf pharmacy, which is demonstrated through his publications and service in pharmacy organizations. He has served as president of both the Minnesota Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Mr. Scott also gives of his time through service on a number of boards, including The Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Board of Advisors of the University of Wisconsin, and the Board of Advisors for the University of Minnesota.

George S. Zorich, Director at Large
Lake Forest, Ill.
George Zorich, R.Ph., has been in pharmaceutical fields for more than 30 years, including branded, generic and distribution companies. He is the president and chief executive officer of World Gen Critical Care, a provider of injectable anti-infectives for the U.S. market.
Most recently, Mr. Zorich was president of Bioniche Pharmaceuticals, a manufacturer of branded and generic injectable products, leading to the sale to Mylan Pharmaceuticals in late 2010. Prior to that, Mr. Zorich was president of Sabex-USA leading to its sale to Sandoz, where he headed up the Sandoz US injectable business. Before that, he was president of GIV, which at that time was the largest distributor of vaccines to physician offices, leading up to the sale to Henry Schein, the multibillion-dollar distributor. Mr. Zorich has also held executive positions at Fujisawa (now Astellas), Akorn Pharmaceuticals, Roxane Laboratories and Eli Lilly.
Mr. Zorich's goal has been to strive for policy changes that provide affordable medications to American consumers and to also provide a consistent and reliable supply of injectable pharmaceuticals to the U.S. hospital marketplace.
He has recently stepped down from the board of the Generic Pharmaceutical Association and is currently on the board of the American College of Phlebology and the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy board of advisors. |
